Rabbi Weiss was born in 1926 in Czechoslovakia and is the son of Salomon Shlomo Weiss, a timber merchant.
Before World War II, he escaped Slovakia on a Kindertransport, arriving in the UK in 1939. He continued his religious education at Yeshiva Toras Emes in Stamford Hill. Rabbi Weiss met the first transport that came to the Windermere reception centre.
He is now the Chief Rabbi of Gaavad of Jerusalem for the Edah HaChareidis. He was appointed to this post in 2004.
